Continuity in Parts
1st Year, 2022, Micah Rutenburg
Work shaped through a steady dialogue within the group of three students and the coordinated exchanges with the neighboring teams, the contour-based seat was brainstormed, designed, and crafted to align precisely with the other seats before and after it. Once assembled all together, These individually designed plywood modules would interlock, becoming a fluid, uninterrupted bench that anchors the space to the object. With threaded rods, washers, and bolts help maintain the consistent spacing throughout, giving the assembled individual chairs and the bench all together a unified rhythm and presence.
The accompanying diagrams allow the viewer to understand the in-depth details and precision it took to turn the digital full model into the contoured model. As a group, we conversed, brainstormed, and created prototype after prototype until we decided on the model shown. On the following page, you will see from both right and left views that those are the matching shapes to the two groups’ last contour before it fluidly matches this design for an individual chair.
